The student must submit the final version of the thesis electronically to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (see e-thesis) within one month of the defence or by the deadline date for convocation posted on the web, whichever is sooner. This will allow us to meet the deadline of the GPS office which requires a 4 week minimum notice of the Oral Defence date.
If these deadlines are not met, your defence could be postponed.
Students registered in thesis programs are subject to different policies, procedures and deadlines than those in non-thesis programs.
Convocation ceremonies are held twice a year (normally in November and in May or June).This should be done promptly in order to obtain the Chair’s signature and meet GPS submission deadlines.*Students are encouraged to submit their initial thesis to their Supervisor for review well in advance of the Departmental deadlines below.This is recommended to ensure adequate time to make corrections, if needed, before the Departmental deadlines.The student should contact the Graduate Program Coordinator of his/her department regarding the scheduling of the defence.Please take note of the following: All students must remain registered and pay fees up until the term of graduation.When the completed examination reports have been returned, the procedures for Master’s theses are as follows: All students must remain registered and pay fees up until the term of graduation.You can verify your updated fee statement approximately one week after the thesis submission deadline using the Student Account Menu (Account Summary) tab on Minerva. Thesis students are NOT required to apply for graduation.After each graduation, all approved final e-theses are transferred to the Libraries.The transfer dates are early March for February granting of degrees, early June for May/June graduates and early November for October graduates.Your thesis, supporting materials, and documentation must be submitted to the Library's Thesis Registration System Library's Thesis Registration System by the following deadlines dates — or within 3 weeks of your Senior Supervisor signing a Supervisor Revision Memo—whichever happens first.The final deadline in every term is always the last working day.
