The purpose of Homework is to consolidate, re-enforce and extend the skills and knowledge taught in School.

Homework also encourages self-confidence and self-discipline, preparing children for secondary school.

I took activity ideas from a variety of spelling menus and designed one big one for children to have in their homework books.If your child is in Y6 there may be some additional work specifically linked to the KS2 SATs.We know from the parent questionnaire completed last year that many parents have very differing opinions about homework from those who prefer nothing to be sent home to those who like very set tasks each week and everything in between.We have therefore developed ‘Supporting Your Child at Home’ pages to go alongside the homework your child receives from their class teachers.The following pages provide activities and support for parents who wish to, to use with their children.In primary school, it is incredibly important that children enjoy learning and see it as something fun and pleasurable to do.Psychologically, developing a love for learning at this age will allow them to grasp concepts and knowledge much more easily in the future. Research shows that reading with your child is the most important thing that you can do to aid your child’s cognitive development. If you enjoy talking about a particular type of content with your child, whether it be one of their interests or a particular author’s narrative, don’t be afraid to linger over pages for longer than it takes to read them!Children in Years 5 and 6 will receive homework each week.This consists of: Spellings Comprehension Maths This will be sent home each Monday, for it to be returned the following Monday. There have been changes to the KS2 SATs in 2016 as they are testing the children on the new curriculum; the expectations for the age-related standard for Year 6 are higher than before. Key Stage 2 is the term for the four years of schooling in maintained schools in England and Wales normally known as Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6, when the pupils are aged between 7 and 11.
